Why is it so important to brush for so long?

Other harmful food includes grapes, peanut butter, chocolate, foods that stick to your teeth and become a constant source of energy for the plaque.
What can you do to protect from tooth decay?
Brushing after meals helps remove food debris and plaque formation. If you can not brush, try to drink liquids to wash your teeth and reduce the amount of food remaining on their surfaces.
Chewing sugarless gum also protects and stimulates salivary secretion, which helps remove plaque through natural mechanisms.
Believe it or not, nearly two in three people destroy their own teeth by brushing too hard or by using incorrect brushing techniques!
It takes only some gentle pressure to remove plaque and food debris, if using a proper brushing technique. The vertical movements of the toothbrush are the correct ones to be used and not the horizontal ones that lead to nothing but the retraction of the gums and the formation of root cavities and also help plaque to gather between the teeth.

Coffee may also cause small enamel fractures that increase the risk of chipping your teeth. These microfractures are the effect of daily consumption of hot liquids that force the enamel to expand and contract rapidly as a result of big temperature differences.
