Dental Implants - Post Operative Care

Post-therapeutic care after the surgical insertion of Dental Implants

After receiving dental implants, contrary to the expectations of most patients, postoperative pain is lower than that after tooth removal.

The swelling of the area is normal and expected.

dental implant medication

The recommended medication is based on antibiotics for 8 to 10 days, regardless of the symptoms.

To reduce the painful post-op symptoms (if they occur), we recommend anti-inflammatory Ibuprofen associated with pain relievers.

• Avoid drinking milk for at least 48 hours post-surgery, to prevent the wound infection.

• Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours post-surgery. It may cause bleeding and slower healing.

• Avoid hot foods and liquids in the first 24 hours. Drink plenty of fluids.

• Avoid anything that might create a negative pressure in the oral cavity, such as drinking through a straw, which could dislodge the clot already formed or forming.

• Avoid brushing the area on the first day post-surgery, for better wound healing, although it is mandatory to wash the remaining teeth to keep a good oral hygiene. You can use mouthwash after 24 hours.

• Do not touch the area where the implant is inserted with your tongue, fingers or a sharp instrument (cutlery).

• To reduce swelling, keep ice packs wrapped in a cloth (not directly) on the skin in the wound area for 10 minutes, then pause for 20 minutes, then repeat for 2 to 3 hours.
